15 Crochet Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold New Year Victorian Evening Shawl Ideas

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold give a crochet evening shawl a dark, formal palette that can suit a Victorian-inspired New Year look without requiring the shawl itself to reproduce a historical garment. Deep Aubergine can cover the broad draped surface, while Champagne Gold can emphasize lace borders, scallops, pineapple motifs, fans, picots, fringe, or other details that remain visible when the shawl is wrapped around the shoulders.

The balance between the colors matters more than simply using both. A mostly Deep Aubergine shawl with a narrow Champagne Gold edge reads very differently from a two-color lace shawl where Champagne Gold travels through every motif. The first keeps the evening wrap dark and restrained; the second makes the decorative crochet itself part of the New Year statement.

Champagne Gold also describes a color, not necessarily a metallic finish. If actual reflective sparkle is important, choose yarn, thread, beads, or another material specifically made with that property rather than assuming a gold-colored yarn will shimmer.

The tutorials below support the shawl, wrap, lace, granny, ruffled, or triangular constructions. The Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold palettes and Victorian-inspired styling are independent editorial adaptations unless a creator’s own choices are specifically verified.

Let Deep Aubergine Carry the Evening Shawl

Deep Aubergine is particularly useful across the largest visual areas because it gives openwork, shells, fans, granny clusters, and denser crochet one continuous dark foundation. This matters on a shawl because the fabric folds over itself when worn; an overly fragmented palette can become even busier once several layers overlap around the shoulders.

Aubergine does not have to occupy every row. The important decision is whether it remains visually connected across the center of the shawl. If the body reads as one dark field, smaller Champagne Gold sections can become deliberate highlights rather than competing stripes.

Use Champagne Gold Where the Victorian-Inspired Crochet Detail Needs Attention

Champagne Gold works especially well where a shawl changes structure: the outer lace border, final scallops, pineapple motifs, picots, fringe, corners, or decorative ends. Those locations remain visible while the center is draped across the back, so a smaller amount of the lighter color can still have substantial impact.

For a restrained evening wrap, keep Champagne Gold near the perimeter. For a more decorative New Year direction, repeat it inside selected motif rows or lace bands. Avoid making every structural change gold automatically; the accent becomes less meaningful if it appears everywhere.

Check Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold While the Shawl Is Draped

A shawl should be judged on the shoulders, not only while lying flat. A Champagne Gold border that appears narrow on a table can become one of the most visible features when it falls down the arms, while a central gold motif may disappear beneath folds.

Before deciding where to add the final accent color, drape the unfinished piece or a sample in the way you expect to wear it. Check the back point, front edges, shoulder line, and hanging ends separately. Those areas do not contribute equally to the visible palette.

1. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Victorian Lace Crochet Evening Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Victorian Lace Crochet Evening Shawl

A Victorian-inspired lace shawl is a direct match for this dark New Year palette. Let Deep Aubergine cover most of the lace body so the wrap retains a rich evening appearance, then move Champagne Gold into the decorative perimeter and picot-style finishing. The contrast gives the edge enough definition without turning the entire shawl into alternating stripes.

Let Deep Aubergine Dominate the Victorian Crochet Lace

Keep Deep Aubergine connected across the broad central area so the repeated lace reads as one continuous textile. This also helps the shawl remain visually dark when several layers overlap around the shoulders.

If the lace contains many open spaces, inspect the color against the outfit underneath. The clothing color will show through the fabric and can change how light or dark the Aubergine appears.

Use Champagne Gold to Define the Deep Aubergine Picot Edge

A Champagne Gold finishing edge can highlight small points and curves that would be less noticeable in a single dark color. Because the edge follows the complete shawl perimeter, a relatively narrow accent can still have strong presence.

Keep the gold section controlled if the Deep Aubergine lace itself is intricate. The border should clarify the finishing detail rather than compete with the entire body.

2. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Vintage Lace Crochet Triangle Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Vintage Lace Crochet Triangle Shawl

A vintage-style triangular lace construction gives the palette a strong central point and long sloping edges. Use Deep Aubergine from the neckline through most of the triangle, then place Champagne Gold near the lower edge where it can follow the expanding lace.

Keep Deep Aubergine Connected From the Neckline to the Shawl Point

A continuous Aubergine center emphasizes the triangular silhouette and keeps the back of the shawl visually cohesive. If Champagne Gold is inserted too frequently through the center, the point can look divided into several separate bands.

Reserve the strongest contrast for the outer portion unless you specifically want striped color movement through the whole triangle.

Let Champagne Gold Widen Along the Deep Aubergine Lower Border

A decorative gold section near the outer edge naturally gains more visual area as the triangle expands. That makes it possible to introduce Champagne Gold late in the shawl while still giving it substantial presence.

Check the back point after draping. If the gold border converges there, it may become a stronger focal area than it appears while the shawl is flat.

3. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Rectangular Lace Crochet Evening Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Rectangular Lace Crochet Evening Shawl

A rectangular wrap changes the color problem because there is no single triangular point. Deep Aubergine can run uninterrupted across the full center while Champagne Gold is concentrated at the two short ends, creating a balanced evening stole effect.

Let Deep Aubergine Form the Long Rectangular Crochet Field

A continuous Aubergine middle section makes the wrap look longer and calmer than an all-over two-color stripe sequence. It also gives the lace stitch enough uninterrupted area to establish its repeat.

When the shawl is worn over both shoulders, the middle section may sit mostly across the back, so its dark color becomes the visual foundation rather than the decorative focus.

Mirror Champagne Gold at Both Deep Aubergine Shawl Ends

Repeating Champagne Gold at both short ends creates symmetry when the wrap falls down the front. Those two areas are often highly visible in evening styling, making them effective locations for the accent color.

Keep the gold sections similar in visual weight unless intentional asymmetry is part of the design.

4. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Bordered Crochet Evening Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Bordered Crochet Evening Shawl

This direction uses a relatively restrained body and makes the border the main color event. Work the shawl largely in Deep Aubergine, then introduce Champagne Gold only where the finishing border becomes visually distinct.

Keep Deep Aubergine Quiet Across the Main Shawl Surface

A single Aubergine body gives the evening shawl a formal, uninterrupted appearance and leaves room for the edging to carry more decorative weight.

This is especially useful if the outfit underneath already contains jewelry, embroidery, sequins, or another strong New Year detail. The crochet does not need competing accents across its complete surface.

Let Champagne Gold Turn the Deep Aubergine Border Into the Focal Point

Use Champagne Gold on the most visible part of the finishing treatment rather than adding small gold patches throughout the body. A continuous edge can frame the entire shawl and remain visible along the arms.

If the border contains several structural rows, you can keep some Aubergine within it and reserve Champagne Gold for the outermost portion so the transition is less abrupt.

5. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Granny-Lace Crochet Evening Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Granny-Lace Crochet Evening Shawl

Granny-based geometry can move toward a formal evening direction when the palette is tightly controlled. Use Deep Aubergine through most of the repeating clusters and add Champagne Gold at selected intervals or only in the decorative final border.

Keep Deep Aubergine Repetition Strong Across the Granny Shawl

The cluster pattern already creates a repeated visual rhythm, so a consistent Aubergine field prevents the shawl from looking like a multicolor casual granny project.

If Champagne Gold is introduced inside the body, repeat it predictably rather than adding isolated rows with no relationship to one another.

Use Champagne Gold Sparingly Between Deep Aubergine Granny Sections

One narrow Champagne Gold interval can mark a transition before returning to Aubergine. Repeating that treatment only a few times gives the shawl a subtle banded quality without overwhelming the cluster structure.

For a more restrained Victorian-inspired result, move all Champagne Gold to the outer border instead.

6. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Delicate Triangle Crochet Evening Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Delicate Triangle Crochet Evening Shawl

An airy triangle works well when Champagne Gold is treated as a light accent rather than equal partner. Keep the open central field Deep Aubergine and place Champagne Gold near the expanding bottom edge or in one controlled decorative band.

Let Deep Aubergine Unify the Airy Crochet Triangle

Openwork exposes more of the clothing underneath, so keeping one yarn color dominant helps the crochet structure remain coherent. Deep Aubergine provides a strong outline even when the individual stitches are widely spaced.

Try the shawl over the garment you plan to pair with it. A pale dress will make the Aubergine lace appear more defined than an equally dark layer underneath.

Keep Champagne Gold Near the Deep Aubergine Outer Lace

A lighter Champagne Gold edge can separate the dark openwork from the surrounding outfit and make the shawl’s outer shape more visible.

If the border already contains strong scallops or points, a narrow gold treatment may be enough. The combination of contrasting color and decorative shape can have more impact than color alone.

7. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold End-Bordered Crochet Lace Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold End-Bordered Crochet Lace Shawl

A rectangular lace shawl with distinct end treatments is especially suitable for Champagne Gold because the decorative ends naturally fall near the hands and front of the body. Keep the central rectangle Deep Aubergine and use the lighter accent at both ends.

Keep Deep Aubergine Across the Long Lace Center

The Aubergine center can remain visually simple even when the stitch pattern itself is detailed. This creates a dark field across the shoulders and prevents the shawl from appearing horizontally striped.

Check how much center fabric remains visible after wrapping. A long rectangular shawl can overlap considerably at the front.

Let Champagne Gold Emphasize Both Deep Aubergine End Borders

Matching Champagne Gold ends create a deliberate evening-stole effect. Because both hang vertically when worn, the color can frame the outfit without needing to travel through the entire shawl.

If you add fringe or tassel-like finishing, decide whether it should remain Aubergine or continue the Champagne Gold accent. Using both heavily can make the ends visually crowded.

8. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Scalloped Triangle Crochet Evening Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Scalloped Triangle Crochet Evening Shawl

A scalloped triangle gives Champagne Gold a natural location along the ornamental lower edge. Deep Aubergine can cover the main triangle while the lighter shade follows the curves and points around the perimeter.

Keep Deep Aubergine Strong Behind the Scalloped Edge

The main body should remain clearly visible behind the decorative border. Too much Champagne Gold moving inward from the edge can reduce the contrast between the central triangle and its finishing treatment.

Use Aubergine right up to the beginning of the decorative border when you want the scallops to have the clearest separation.

Trace Deep Aubergine Scallops With Champagne Gold

Champagne Gold can follow the final scalloped line and make each repeat more noticeable. This placement is especially useful for an evening shawl because the edge moves as the wearer walks or adjusts the wrap.

If the scallops already create a busy silhouette, avoid adding another contrasting band immediately above them unless it serves a clear visual purpose.

9. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Long Rectangular Crochet Evening Wrap

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Long Rectangular Crochet Evening Wrap

A straightforward rectangular wrap can take on a more formal direction through proportion and controlled color blocking. Use Deep Aubergine through most of the length, then place Champagne Gold in narrow sections near each end.

Let Deep Aubergine Create the Long Evening-Wrap Line

Continuous Aubergine emphasizes length and keeps the wrap visually calm across the shoulders. This can be useful when you want the shawl to complement rather than compete with an evening dress.

Avoid alternating many equal-width bands unless a striped result is intentional; repeated high-contrast changes can shorten the visual impression of a long rectangular piece.

Place Champagne Gold Toward the Ends of Deep Aubergine

Champagne Gold near each end becomes visible when the shawl hangs down the front. It also keeps the lighter color away from the center back, where it may disappear in folds.

Consider whether the final edge should return to Aubergine or end in gold. A thin Aubergine finishing line can contain a broader Champagne Gold section and reconnect it to the body.

10. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Fine Lace Crochet Triangle Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Fine Lace Crochet Triangle Shawl

A fine lace triangle can carry a more delicate color distribution. Let Deep Aubergine dominate the openwork and use Champagne Gold at the lower point, outermost motifs, or a narrow edging rather than broad solid bands.

Use Deep Aubergine to Keep Fine Crochet Lace Cohesive

Small lace repeats can become visually complicated when the color changes too frequently. Deep Aubergine across the main field gives the eye one continuous color to follow through the open structure.

If the lace is especially open, the outfit underneath becomes part of the visible composition, so test the shawl over its intended layer before adding more accent color.

Concentrate Champagne Gold at the Deep Aubergine Point and Edge

The triangle point is a natural focal area because several lines converge there. A small amount of Champagne Gold around that section can look more prominent than the same amount placed randomly through the center.

Repeat a little gold along the outer edge so the point feels connected to the rest of the shawl rather than isolated.

11. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Picot-Trellis Crochet Evening Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Picot-Trellis Crochet Evening Shawl

Trellis-style lace gives the palette plenty of negative space, while picot details provide small locations for Champagne Gold. Use Deep Aubergine throughout the mesh-like body and reserve the lighter color for finishing points or the outer border.

Let Deep Aubergine Define the Open Trellis Crochet

A dark Aubergine trellis can remain visibly graphic even though much of the fabric is open space. Keeping the main network in one color helps the eye understand the repeating lace structure.

Avoid alternating every small trellis section between Aubergine and Champagne Gold unless you deliberately want a more graphic, less restrained result.

Put Champagne Gold on the Deep Aubergine Picot Details

Small Champagne Gold points along the perimeter can create a jewelry-like rhythm without covering a large part of the shawl.

If actual New Year sparkle is important, this is also a logical place to introduce a verified reflective material, because a narrow border requires less of it than an entire shawl body.

12. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Ruffled Rectangle Crochet Evening Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Ruffled Rectangle Crochet Evening Shawl

Ruffles change the visible amount of a color because the fabric folds and overlaps. Keep the central rectangle Deep Aubergine and place Champagne Gold primarily in the ruffled border so the lighter shade gains dimension without taking over the whole wrap.

Ground the Champagne Gold Ruffle With Deep Aubergine

A broad Aubergine center gives the ruffle a stable dark background. When worn, the center remains relatively smooth across the back while the edge creates more movement around the arms.

This contrast between a quieter center and decorative perimeter fits the evening-shawl concept better than applying equal ruffling and color changes everywhere.

Let Champagne Gold Move Through the Deep Aubergine Ruffle

Champagne Gold can cover the final portion of the ruffle or trace only its outer edge. Because ruffled fabric exposes multiple folds at once, even a narrow gold section may appear visually substantial.

Check the balance while the shawl is hanging. The same ruffle looks much denser vertically than it does when spread flat.

13. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Pineapple Lace Crochet Evening Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Pineapple Lace Crochet Evening Shawl

Pineapple motifs provide a strong ornamental structure that suits a Victorian-inspired color treatment. Keep Deep Aubergine through most of the lace and introduce Champagne Gold only in selected motif sections or the final pineapple-rich border.

Keep Deep Aubergine Consistent Through the Pineapple Lace

Pineapple motifs already contain several internal spaces and directional lines. Using Deep Aubergine consistently helps the full motif remain recognizable instead of breaking it into disconnected color fragments.

View several completed motifs together before deciding how much Champagne Gold the shawl needs.

Use Champagne Gold to Highlight Selected Deep Aubergine Pineapples

Rather than switching every pineapple to Champagne Gold, choose a clear location such as the final motif row, lower point, or border. This gives the lighter color a defined ornamental role.

If you highlight too many motifs equally, the gold can become the dominant color even when it occupies less actual yarn.

14. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Ornamental Pineapple Crochet Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Ornamental Pineapple Crochet Shawl

A more elaborate pineapple treatment can use Champagne Gold as a repeating internal accent rather than only a border. Let Deep Aubergine establish the background and framework, then repeat Champagne Gold in selected ornamental zones.

Let Deep Aubergine Surround the Champagne Gold Pineapple Motifs

Deep Aubergine should remain visible between the lighter decorative sections so each Champagne Gold area has a clear boundary.

If gold motifs touch one another continuously, they can merge into a broad light field and weaken the sense of individual ornamental repeats.

Repeat Champagne Gold Predictably Across Deep Aubergine

Choose one motif level, outer row, or recurring section for the Champagne Gold rather than changing color wherever convenient.

Predictable repetition is particularly helpful in ornate lace because it gives the eye a second organizing pattern beyond the crochet structure itself.

15. Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Dark Romantic Crochet Triangle Shawl

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Dark Romantic Crochet Triangle Shawl

Finish with a Deep Aubergine-dominant triangle where Champagne Gold appears only at the most visible finishing areas. This produces the darkest option in the collection and keeps the New Year accent controlled rather than distributing it evenly through the body.

Let Deep Aubergine Carry Almost the Entire Crochet Shawl

Use uninterrupted Aubergine through the central triangle and most of the outer rows. This keeps the shawl firmly in a dark evening direction even when the lace or stitch texture is highly visible.

Because the body is mostly one color, stitch texture and drape become more important parts of the finished appearance.

Reserve Champagne Gold for the Deep Aubergine Final Edge

A narrow Champagne Gold line at the perimeter can be enough to signal the New Year palette without changing the character of the dark shawl.

If you want slightly more contrast, repeat Champagne Gold only at the three corners or along the lower edge rather than expanding it throughout the complete body.

Which Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Evening Shawl Direction Should You Choose?

For the clearest Victorian-inspired lace direction, Ideas 1, 2, 10, 11, 13, and 14 put decorative crochet structure at the center of the design. Picots, fine lace, and pineapple motifs give Champagne Gold specific details to highlight rather than using it as an arbitrary stripe.

If you prefer a long evening stole rather than a pointed triangle, Ideas 3, 7, 9, and 12 use rectangular constructions. Deep Aubergine can cover most of the shoulder area while Champagne Gold appears at the hanging ends or ruffled perimeter where it remains visible from the front.

Ideas 4, 6, 8, and 15 are useful for a restrained New Year palette. They keep the shawl predominantly Deep Aubergine and limit Champagne Gold to borders, scallops, or the final edge.

Idea 5 offers a more geometric direction through granny-style repetition. Keeping the palette to Aubergine and Gold prevents the familiar cluster construction from becoming visually multicolored and gives it a more evening-focused treatment.

Conclusion

Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold work particularly well on a New Year evening shawl when the two colors have different responsibilities. Aubergine can establish the broad dark drape, while Champagne Gold can identify the decorative detail that should remain visible once the shawl is wrapped around the shoulders.

For a restrained result, put Champagne Gold only on the final border, scallops, picots, or ends. For a more ornamental Victorian-inspired direction, repeat it through selected pineapple motifs, lace bands, or ruffles. Rectangular wraps benefit from balanced gold treatments at both ends, while triangular shawls can concentrate the accent along the expanding lower border and point.

Drape the shawl before making the final color decision. The sections visible on a table are not necessarily the sections seen when the wrap is worn. Use the original creator tutorials for exact construction details, then place Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold according to the areas that remain visible in your intended New Year styling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should Deep Aubergine or Champagne Gold Dominate a Victorian-Inspired Crochet Evening Shawl?

Deep Aubergine is the stronger choice for the dominant field when you want a dark evening look. It can cover the main triangle or rectangle while Champagne Gold highlights decorative details.

Champagne Gold can take a larger role when the shawl contains ornamental motifs, but preserving some continuous Deep Aubergine around those motifs helps maintain the darker palette.

Where Should Champagne Gold Go on a Deep Aubergine Crochet Shawl?

The border, lower triangle edge, scallops, picots, pineapple motifs, fringe, and hanging ends are all useful locations because they remain relatively visible while the shawl is worn.

Choose one or two primary gold zones instead of automatically placing the accent on every decorative feature.

Does Champagne Gold Yarn Automatically Add New Year Sparkle?

No. Champagne Gold can simply describe a warm pale-gold color. A yarn with that color name does not necessarily contain metallic fibers or reflective elements.

If literal sparkle matters, choose a material specifically described as metallic, glittered, sequined, or otherwise reflective and check its own specifications.

Can Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Work in an Open Lace Shawl?

Yes, but remember that the outfit underneath will show through the openwork. Deep Aubergine may appear more defined over a pale garment and more subtle over another dark layer.

Keep Champagne Gold placement simple when the lace itself is intricate so color and stitch structure do not compete.

Should Champagne Gold Be Used on the Fringe of a Deep Aubergine Shawl?

It can be, particularly when the body is almost entirely Deep Aubergine. Champagne Gold fringe gives the accent substantial movement without changing the main crochet fabric.

If the border is already heavily gold, Aubergine fringe may create better balance than adding another large Champagne Gold element.

How Can I Make Deep Aubergine and Champagne Gold Feel Victorian-Inspired Without Claiming Historical Accuracy?

Use the palette to emphasize lace, scallops, picots, pineapple motifs, ornate borders, and draped shawl shapes associated visually with vintage or romantic styling.

Treat the result as Victorian-inspired rather than an exact historical reproduction unless you are working from verified period documentation.

How Can I Keep Champagne Gold From Overpowering Deep Aubergine?

Reduce the area it covers and place it where a small amount can still be effective. Borders, corners, motif centers, or selected lace rows often need less color than a broad stripe across the entire shawl.

Drape the shawl before adding more Champagne Gold. Folded edges can make the accent appear much larger when worn than it does while the piece is lying flat.
